A central air conditioner is mainly composed of compressor, heat exchanger and automatic control system. The copper pipe in the heat exchanger is called the "blood vessel" of the central air conditioner, and the quality of the "blood vessel" will directly determine the quality of the air conditioner. Copper pipe is the best pipeline and heat exchange material in the refrigeration industry. Copper pipes play a vital role in central air conditioning and affect the overall use of air conditioning.

Copper pipes are widely used in refrigeration systems. Copper pipes are used in connecting pipes, heat exchangers, capillaries, etc. However, the materials of copper pipes are different. How do we choose the right copper pipe? Today, let's discuss why copper pipes are used for central air conditioners and what copper pipes are better for central air conditioners.

Why do central air conditioners use copper pipes?

The pipeline of the refrigerant system is the copper pipe we often say, so why does the refrigerant system choose copper pipe as the system pipeline? As we all know, the refrigerant itself is corrosive to a certain extent, that is to say, PPR, PEX and other rubber and plastic pipes cannot be used. The final choice is nothing more than steel pipe, aluminum pipe, copper pipe.

1. Steel pipe

The steel pipe cannot be installed in the whole pipe, which also means that there will be many joints in the system. Because the refrigerant system pipeline is driven by high-pressure gas and liquid, the joints are very easy to rust. As the old saying goes, steel pipes are not suitable.

2. Aluminum pipe

The aluminum tube cannot be used as a bell mouth, and the pressure resistance is poor and it is not resistant to oxidation. It is easy to leak points, and the aluminum tube is not suitable.

3. Copper pipe

Most of the whole pipe is installed, which has good ductility, oxidation resistance, good pressure resistance as a bell mouth, and is not easy to leak refrigerant. Strong thermal conductivity and higher heat exchange efficiency.

It can be seen from the above that the copper pipe is selected as the pipeline of the refrigerant system because of its physical properties.

What is copper pipe?

Copper pipes, commonly used copper pipes (industrial pure copper) and brass pipes (copper-zinc alloy), are divided into drawn pipes, rolled pipes and extruded pipes according to different manufacturing methods. Generally, medium and low pressure pipes are drawn. pipe making. Air conditioning copper pipes can be roughly divided into ordinary air conditioning copper pipes and degreased air conditioning copper pipes. Ordinary air conditioner: the thickness is generally 2 points, 3 points, 0.5mm thick, 4 points, 0.6mm thick, 5 points and 6 points, 0.7mm thick; mainly used for R22, the pressure is controlled at 0.98MPa.

The degreased air-conditioning copper pipe: It is also called "oil-free air-conditioning copper pipe". There are 2 and 3 pipes with a thickness of 0.8mm, and 4 points, 5 points and 6 points with a thickness of 1.0mm. Mainly used for new refrigerants such as R410, and the pressure is controlled at 1.8MPa.

Copper tube is an important raw material for the processing and manufacturing of refrigeration equipment. It has two main useages:

1. Make a heat exchanger. It is an important part of the evaporator and condenser of the air conditioner.

2. Make connecting pipes and fittings.

Classification of copper pipes

1. Copper tube

The copper content of the copper tube reaches more than 99.90%. Copper pipes have the good characteristics of copper metal, a high-quality basic metal, and are widely used in various fields of industry and civil use, and play an important role.

There are mainly three types of copper tubes: TP2, T2, and TU1.

a. Phosphorus deoxidized copper: TP2 is phosphorus deoxidized copper, which contains 0.015-0.04% phosphorus. It has good welding and cold bending properties. It is widely used in the manufacture of air-conditioning refrigeration connecting pipes, stove gas connecting pipes, and electric heating pipes.

b. Oxygenated copper: There are mainly ordinary pure copper (T1, T2, T3, etc.) and tough copper, which are characterized by high oxygen content.

T2 is pure copper, and the copper content is higher than 99.90%. When the user has higher requirements on the conductivity of the material, the T2 copper tube will be the first choice.

c. Oxygen-free copper: including high-purity oxygen-free copper (TU0, TU1, TU2) and phosphorus deoxidized copper (TUP, TP1, TP2, etc.), characterized by very little oxygen content, and a small amount of deoxidizer remaining in deoxidized copper;

TU1 is oxygen-free copper, copper content ≥99.97%, extremely low oxygen and impurity content, high purity, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, good ductility, good processing performance, welding, corrosion resistance, and cold resistance. Due to the high requirements and high cost of production, the price of its products is much higher than that of other types of copper pipes.

d. Special copper: there are arsenic copper, silver copper, tellurium copper, etc., which are characterized by adding different trace alloying elements to achieve the purpose of improving the overall performance of the material.

2. Brass tube

For copper-zinc alloy pipes, the number after the H letter in the grade often represents the middle value of its copper content, and the zinc content is the rest. Brass pipes of different grades generally show better quality and elongation performance as the copper content becomes higher and higher. Mainly used for water pipes and water wading connectors.

Features of brass tube: The copper tube has the characteristics of sturdiness and corrosion resistance, light weight, good thermal conductivity, high low temperature strength, and can be used in multiple environments.

Copper coil pipe:


Currently mainly used for two main pipes, connecting pipes, pipe fittings, etc.

Features: It is convenient to transport, and the user is not limited by the length in the process of use.

Mainly used in the maintenance market.

Straight pipe:


mainly used for central air conditioning, connecting pipe.

Features: It is inconvenient to transport, and there are length limitations in use.

Precautions for copper pipe installation

1. All solder joints should be welded at the connection between the copper pipe and the branch pipe, and there should be no copper pipe and copper pipe welding.

2. Nitrogen must be filled in the copper tube during the welding process. At this time, there is no air inside the copper tube, so as to avoid the carbon deposition on the inner wall during welding, which may cause the compressor to malfunction when the system is officially running.

3. The nitrogen filling and pressure holding time is generally 24 hours. When using R410A refrigerant, the pressure in the tube should be kept at 40 kg, and the pressure in the tube should be kept at 20 kg for R22 refrigerant.

4. In order to ensure that the installation and construction are in place, all pressure gauges are not removed after the regular 24 pressure maintenance, and are kept to be removed before the power-on test of the external machine to fully ensure the safe operation of the refrigerant system.
